Portage Bay, Seattle, King County, Washington
Portage Bay is a body of water in Seattle that is often referred to as the eastern arm of Lake Union. It is part of the Lake Washington Ship Canal. Portage Bay was named in 1913 after the portage across the Montlake Isthmus that was once required to transport logs from Union Bay to Lake Union before the Ship Canal was built. Portage Bay neighborhood is a modest residential enclave on the bay’s southwest edge. It is flanked on the south by State Route 520 and on the west by Interstate 5, and it is home to one of Seattle’s largest remaining enclaves of Houseboats.
