Bitter Lake, Broadview, Seattle, King County, Washington, 98133
Bitter Lake is a neighborhood in Seattle named after the region’s most famous feature, Bitter Lake. Until the late nineteenth century, it was a primarily natural forest of Douglas-fir and Western Redcedar inhabited by Native Americans. The lake is 19 acres in size, with a mean depth of 4.9 meters and a maximum depth of 9.4 meters. Tannic acid from discarded logs in the lake gave the water a bitter flavor and gave the lake its name.
