King County is in the state of Washington in the United States. In the 2020 census, the population was 2,269,675, making it the most populated county in Washington and the 13th most populous in the United States. Seattle, the state’s most populated city, serves as the county seat.
King County is one of three counties in Washington that are part of the Seattle-Tacoma-Bellevue metropolitan statistical region. Snohomish County is to the north, and Pierce County is to the south. The suburbs of Seattle are home to around two-thirds of King County’s population.
King County covers nearly double the land area of Rhode Island. Mount Daniel, at 2,426 meters above sea level, is the county’s highest peak.
King County is bounded to the north by Snohomish County, to the west by Kitsap County, to the east by Kittitas County, and to the south by Pierce County. It also has a small border to the northeast with Chelan County. In Puget Sound, King County encompasses Vashon and Maury Islands.
