The Central Area, sometimes known as the Central District or The CD, is a primarily residential neighborhood in Seattle east of downtown and First Hill. The Central District has historically been one of Seattle’s most racially and culturally diverse districts, and it was once the heart of the city’s black community and a significant hub for African-American companies. Northwest African American Museum, Bullitt Center, Langston Hughes Performing Arts Center, The Nova Project, and Washington Hall are among the landmarks and institutions.
