Portage Bay is a small waterside neighborhood located just east of the University District and north of Capitol Hill. It’s named after the narrow waterway that connects Lake Union to Lake Washington via the Montlake Cut. The area is dominated by waterfront homes, floating houses, and boat moorings.
While not filled with tourist attractions, Portage Bay offers beautiful views and a unique look at Seattle’s maritime culture. Visitors can explore the nearby University Bridge, rent kayaks or paddleboards, or simply enjoy a walk along the water. It’s also near the Seattle Yacht Club and a short drive from the Seattle Arboretum.
